There are a few terms closely related to web hosting. Let us take a look at them...

• Shared Web Hosting: When you use a server's space to publicize your website, and that same server is used by other website owners as well, then this arrangement is called shared web hosting.
• Virtual Hosting: It is very much the same as shared web hosting.
• Dedicated Hosting: When a website is big enough to need a single server to run on, then the system is called dedicated hosting. You are in full control over the server and the inflow and management of your website traffic. Not only do you have privacy, as no other website is running on that server, but you also do not have to worry about being slowed down by other websites' traffic.
• VPS Hosting: VPS is also known as a virtual machine. You can rent such a server and run your website on it.
• Reseller Hosting: At times a web server sells web space to a user and that user in turn sells or rents parts of his share to others. This arrangement is called reseller hosting.
• Domain Name: A domain name is a cluster of IP addresses that often refer to a website. Every domain is part of a top level domain like:
• gov
• edu
• org
• com
• Uptime: This term is used to show the reliability and stability of an operating system. It ideally refers to the time that a machine or computer has been functional without being non-operation. This should be a continuous stretch of time.
• Traffic: It is the number of visitors to a web page and the number of web pages of a website visited. This count is tracked to understand the popularity of a page and also understand the trend of visitors' likes and dislikes. The traffic is often the source to web page designing.
